additional information about Notre Dame Cathedral
I wish you a happy and healthy New Year! Thank you so much for supporting Friends of Notre-Dame de Paris. Together, we have made incredible progress in rebuilding Notre-Dame de Paris in 2020, completing the major steps of the Safety Phase of reconstruction, which ensures that all future work will not jeopardize the safety of workers or the structure of the cathedral. We removed the damaged exterior scaffolding and dismantled the Grand Organ. This year, the restoration of the pipes and inner workings of the organ will be completed off-site.
Currently, we are in the process of installing scaffolding inside the cathedral to support the structure while the vaults are rebuilt. The Notre-Dame Cathedral we know today took almost two hundred years to build amidst changing monarchies, architectural styles and societal structures. It will take much less time to rebuild, thanks to the generosity and dedication of our community members, like you.
Imagine the changes that Our Lady has survived over the past eight centuries. Another new year is dawning, and she is still here to see what 2021 brings us.
This year, we continue our work to rebuild, restore and renew Notre-Dame de Paris to an even better state than she was in before the fire. Thank you so much for joining us on this journey to restore Our Lady’s light and beauty to the world.
