Curious to know who the distributor is/was, and why this came about with no help?

If it is a Hoaf, you may be lighting it wrong. The burner heads out side on
a Hoaf never get hot. I had a student of mine some time ago who did not
light it correctly. He let each burner at the orifice on the burner heads.
THAT IS WRONG, he damn near burned down his studio. You only light
the small Burnsomatic like burner on the inlet hose. I don't know if that is
what you are doing, or if indeed you are running a Hoaf but that is the only
thing I can think of that fits the description of the problem you are describing.

It is a Hoaf, the mantels are discolored, too hot I think you may be lighting
it wrong. Do not light each Mantel orifice, only light it on the out side burner
on the lower right just after the first turn on knob. That is the master burner.
It controls the mantels. WHEN YOU light it KEEP the lid OPEN, Light the first OUT SIDE BURNER.
When that is lit, WITH THE LID OPEN, Turn on the second on, off, handle
ON, HALF way, till the mantels light with sort of a flickering blue light. THEN AND
ONLY then open the handle all the way, walk around and close the lid. QUICKLY, Good luck. PS, STAND BEHIND THE OPEN LID< DURNING this procedure.

A non-functional Hoaf is a tragic dilemma: It should be one of your favorite things. Whatever is wrong with it, or your setup, or your fuel, has to be simple because they're just not that complicated. Did you figure it out yet Nancy?
